I have run across a cacher from Swindon in Wiltshire, with a blog I really like. He includes beautiful photo, along with super maps and descriptions. So I have asked if i could share some of his stories and he graciously agreed. I pick this first story for a couple of simple reasons - I like the photo of the cows. And I like the photo of the old car. A couple of things I enjoy. Story is great too.
After completing the Aschcott Circle in the morning I moved onto the
Catcott Circle which starts and ends at Shapwick but heads north east to
Catcott does a loop and returns along the same path.
If you want a full days caching trip, this can be combined with the Ashcott Circle
or done as two separate trails as I did. So, a short drive up the road
after lunch to Shapwick where there was amble roadside parking.
The first part of the trail was a walk along a quiet lane before
turning onto a farm track and then cross country (beware of cows) to
Shapwick across open fields. Out of the two series I much preferred the Ashcott Circle, but this was a nice accompanying series to it.
I managed to
avoid this field of cows which were getting very impatient waiting for
the farmer to take them for milking. I think the actual footpath would
have taken me through the field but with a dog in tow, I decided best to
take a detour.
At Catcott village I passed several vintage
cards being washed and cleaned, I assumed they had been out at weddings
earlier in the day.
The first part of the trail was a little unexciting but towards the
end of the trail there were several good views across the countryside as
I headed back into Shapwick.
Lately, some pretty unique cache containers have been popping up on one site or another. It is exciting to see how creative geocachers are; in the way they hide the cache and the container itself.
Here's a few of what I think are my favorites.
and then there is that one container that, no matter how cleaver it is, I could have been fine with never seeing it.
You know that any dog can be a Travel Bug dog, right? So, if you have ever considered owning a dog, now would be a great time. And always, always, go for the Pound Puppy when you can. Your local Humane Society and Animal Control are forced to euthanize hundreds of animals every year. Two ways to stop this - Adopt an animal and get your animals spayed and neutered.
Here's just a handful of the TB dogs that I have met over the past year. They are my favorite part of events.
Now I know that you have a smile on your face. Have a great day!
I parked in a handy spot, loaded up the bike and set off for the morning
loop of 24 caches. I got back to the car at about 1:30 and had lunch,
another bottle of water (it was really hot today), a change of battery
for the bike and a recharge of the Loox.
Then I set off on the second loop, got back to the car, changed battery
again, and went round the third loop. These aren't loops that the cache
owner set, it was just me finding a route that would be as short and
easy as possible.
Along the way, while on the road, I encountered the remains of a minor
accident. A box of drill bits had fallen onto the road and shattered,
there were bits of plastic and drill bits lying there, a potential
hazard. I tidied up, and I'll be keeping the drill bits - I was thinking
of buying new bits anyway, because my current ones are getting a bit
blunt. These are Black and Decker, so hopefully they'll be good quality.
Towards the end of the day, I encountered this:
Yes, it's a ferret. On a lead. The lady said that she was training it,
but she was still having trouble with it biting. I've never seen a
ferret on a lead before.
Just a quick note to update on the Chuck Mettille Memorial Pathtag. I think the easiest thing to do here is just post what I saw on Facebook from Diane Casey. Update on GNCAZ's Memorial pathtag. The tags
were ordered at the end of July. They are due to be delivered in mid to
end of Sept. I plan to have an event to distribute in late Sept or early
October. Attached is the final design. Thanks to all who ordered and
supported this tag. We have pretty much sold out
of tags. We have a few people from the pathtags site who have not
confirmed their order or paid so there might be a few available at the
event I plan on holding to distribute the path tags that were ordered.
Hope that makes sense.
You all know how I love sharing Joshua Johnson's videos. I watch every one that comes along on Facebook and track down others on Youtube. All are great but some are a must, like this virtual cache in Blue Earth, Minnesota.
Any of you who have tuned into Joshua's vids know that this man has more energy and enthusiasm that any dozen kids I know.
Watch and see how the location gets kinda strange with the presence of the Johnson family.
You are oh so right, Joshua. This is a great virtual.
It's International Geocaching Day and so many of us have been looking up events on Geocaching.com to attend. And how exciting that we get a little bonus for attending. Then you have the Coombs family of London, United Kingdom who made a plan to celebrate the day with their own plan. Not concerned about the recognition or the numbers or the event bonus, they made it a great family day of caching and play. Dave Coombs says that they had gotten away from caching for a while but jumped right back in with this weekend of geocaching, kite flying and fun in Sumners Pond.

I may be creeping up the ladder of hypocrisy with this post. A few days ago I was saying that you should be more careful when going into caves and other situations that could put you into danger. Then I come across this cache site that has me totally amazed and wishing I was there to enjoy it. You will understand as you read and take a look at the photos.
I will be doing this one in English and French, to the best of my ability. Since the info originated in French, only seems right to keep it that way. Take a look at what Olivier Rouet (War Cat)has shared on accomplishing this task and his brief conversation on Facebook.
