Photo Post for Creepy Caches # 1

There are so many neat cemetery, creepy, spooky, scary and just plain ole' neat caches that I really want to show some of the photos.  Lots of these caches have very little in the way of stories behind them but because of the creativity of the maker or the location, the photos are all that is required to enjoy them.

Take a look at El Diablo's Treasure, located just west of Tombstone Arizona.  From the looks of this cache, it really could fit in at Tombstone's Boothill Graveyard.

GCKPPC - El Diablo's Treasure has been enjoyed by almost 400 cachers and only one of those didn't get a smiley.  From all the post I have read, it is by far one of the favs in southern Arizona.  Thanks

A New Beginning For Chuck Mettille

      Such a sad ending to the life of Chuck Mettille, but his caching friends have bonded together to form a new beginning for Chuck and his family.  From what I have read it seems to be absolutely perfect.

     This is a team effort.  I don't have or have not seen info that tells all but what I do know is that Mike (Merlot) and Kraig Neese are a couple of the key players.  I am certain that the caching community and Chuck's family appreciate, more than words can say, all the thought and feelings that went into this project.

This cache has been renamed in memory of Chuck Mettille. He (gncaz) earned the First to Find Honor at 11:11 a.m. on July 7, 2012. Tragically, he died on the way back to his car. Please show proper respect at the cache site.

A Sonoran Preserve cache. The cache is on a great intermediate hike/bike trail.  There are several access points to the mountain trail from the paved trail along the soon-to-be completed Sonoran Parkway.

There will be a Memorial Hiking Event this fall when the weather cools for a supervised hike on the Ocotillo Trail to Chuck's Last First.  Details will be available at a later date.

Yuma Event #10 Date Scheduled !

     As the temperature today in Yuma Arizona soared to 109 degrees today, most people may be thinking it would be crazy to plan a trip to such a desert.  But please remember that it is a dry heat and in February the weather is perfect.  When the blizzards are blowing in Minnesota and those in Wyoming are attempting to find a way to get their frozen car doors open,  Yuma is living up to it’s reputation of being the ‘Sunniest City in the United States’.  

     Perfect location is all that can be said for the Yuma Event #10; a geocachers dream weekend.      

     Before I talk about the event, just let me tell you about the caching world that surrounds Yuma.  First – Yuma has over 2000 caches within a 50 mile radius.  There is something for everyone including night, desert, water, mountain, puzzle and the biggest TB Hotel you have ever seen.  

Accommodations - There are a ton of RV parks in the area for those who travel in their home away from home.  Yuma has a more than adequate number of reasonable priced hotels.  

Recreation – besides the caching you can keep yourself occupied and out of trouble with water sports on the river, quick trip across the border to Los Algodones  for some great Mexican food (don’t forget the required passport to return home) and historic sights galore. 

If you haven’t been to Yuma in the past, you now know a few little tid bits about the city.

Time – 9 a.m.

Location - Gateway Park in Historical Old Town Yuma  (that is the location for the Main Event)  Other Satellite Events will be held on Friday and Saturday at various locations around Yuma

Need to bring – chair, plenty of beverage,  sunscreen, thinking cap and your basic cacher’s tool box. 

Other events  that we will cover later – Poker Derby, Geo-Bingo, 50/50 Draw, Door Prizes, Travel Bug viewing and the famous Tri-Tip BBQ lunch

Bubbles, Bubbles Everywhere

June 9, 2012, Ten a.m., and Tucson is heating up already, probably in the low 90's.   But that didn't stop over 3 dozen dedicated geocachers from meeting for the WWFM-IX Bubble Flash Mob, sponsored by Philbeer, at the Julian Wash - Cultural Historic Walk Park.

     This is part of the World Wide Flash Mob Event which is dozens of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to geocaching. 

 The schedule was as follows -

Event begins at 10 a.m.
10:05 - The bubbles begin

 10:10 - Group picture with bubbles

10:15 - The events ends

   I had no idea what the WWFM group was all about until I checked out their site.  You can also find group photos from 31 different countries.  Super neat !

Finally it has Happened to Me

Finally 1 - 0 - 0 - 0 Geocaches FOUND! 

 

My 1,000th was actually an event cache. I attended the World Wide Flash Mob and we had a bubble party in the middle of a park GC3M2W4. I'm glad the event was short and sweet because you can't last long in this Arizona heat.

After the event I grabbed a multi and a traditional cache with a few other people. The caches were in the same park so luckily we didn't have to go to far... I felt like I was melting!
