Space Coast Geocaching Store Update

It's been a while since I have talked to the Space Coast Geocaching Guys but, they have a couple of exciting new things happening. 

First - Signal is hanging out in the store.  For those cachers who geocache as a family will understand how neat this will be for the little ones who come in the store.  And what about any muggles who happen by the area?  If this doesn't bring up some questions, I don't know what will.  Check with Space Coast and see if they are going to do a photo session with Signal soon.  I guess it would be helpful if you live or are visiting their neck of the woods.

And here's some exciting news that you will enjoy, even if you don't live in the area.  Here's their announcement from September 3, 2013 -

Ok fans here is the announcement you have all been waiting for....the trackable license plates have FINALLY arrived. We will begin processing all of the orders tomorrow and hope to have all orders shipped by Thursday. Thank you for your patience. They turned out fantastic. We believe everyone will be quite happy once they see them in person. So within the next week everyone should start to see them arrive. We will also add them to our online store once we have all the orders shipped. So if you did not get in on the presale they should be available starting Friday if all goes well. Again thanks to everyone that took advantage of the presale.

Cacher Jim and Emma

     Cachers are a family.  We all know that.  So when we hear about a cacher going through a tough time, we want to be there for them.  Thank goodness for Facebook – we can stay in contact easily.  I saw this story last week and of course was drawn to it for a couple of reasons.  First – this is a cacher.  I don’t know Jim personally but his story is still important to me.  Second – this has to do with his dog.  Yeah – I am a sucker for a dog story, even one with a sad ending. 

      I can relate a bit.  About 23 years ago we lost our long time family member, Tippy.  It was sad but he left us just as he lived – gallantly.  Just a few months later our 3 year old dog, Bubba, became very ill.  Long story short, after many thousand spent, they decided that he was dying of a broken heart and there just wasn’t anything we could do.  We don’t want to put a dollar value on our pets but it is unavoidable when the bills mount up.

Just found out that our dog, Emma, has cancer. They found a mass on her spleen and the cancer has spread to her lungs and her heart. She is so old that surgery would probably be too much for her and most likely would not take care of all of it. She also has some internal bleeding. She had to stay at the hospital today...we will be going to say goodbye to her tonight. :(

My dog has been sick for a little over a month and we have been spending a lot of time and money trying to help her overcome her illness. Yesterday she collapsed, so we took her to the ER and found out that she had cancer and it had spread quite rapidly. She passed away last night.

Shannon Scott and The Ring

     While reading post and looking at pictures about the GeoWoodstock X, I ran across a photo of a ring.  An actually trackable ring.  It looks beautiful !  So I went in search of the owner of 'The Ring', and Found Shannon Scott.  I asked Shannon to fill me in and share some ring info and he did just that.  I will drop in his story here so you can read what he had to say.  But before I turn the page over to Shannon, I will tell you that I will be asking him to share some of his caching experiences.  I think he could have some great stories.  What do you think Shannon?  Willing to share?

     Hello, my name is Shannon Scott, I live in Jacksonville Florida. I am a husband and a father. I have been retired from the USN for 3 years. I am currently in school to be a Surgical Tech. I first started caching in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 2004.

     3 and half years ago I was in the Black Sea onboard the USS Klakring. While caching in several countries, I thought it would be a cool idea to have a trackable ring. I started designing the ring by sketching down my ideas and also email other cachers for their input as well. When I got home I researched ring manufactures and and came across MTM Recognition. They are the makers of many NBA and Super Bowl rings. With their help, I developed 2 versions of the ring. The men's ring and the ladies ring. The rings are trackable and come with their own icon. These rings can come many different metals and many different stones. Your geoname can even be engraved on the inside of the ring. 

     I believe these rings are the most elite trackables in the world. They are less than 1% of all trackables made in America.  As of today, there are only 12 rings in existence and very soon there will be a 13th.
